Description of Submission:  "My artwork seeks out to visually symbolize the constant loss and regain of marriage rights throughout history.  Series of hands line each side, desparately trying to catch the falling ring in the center.  The fact that no one is able to successfully catch the ring represents the fault of the U.S. Constitiution and our world right now.  According to the 14th Amendment, no person shall be denied the equal protections of the laws.  However, this law was recently and obviously disregarded with the passing of California's Propostion 8, the law that stripped over 100.000 couples of their right to wed and voided the marriages of more than 15,000 couples.  Is it really possible for love to be illegal?

The quote on the bottom of my piece is taken from the Address on Bill C-38 (The Civil Marriage Act) by Canada's former PM Paul Martin.  In this address, Paul Martin reconfirmed that the rights of all people should be equal and protected, and ultimately, made same-sex marriage legal in Canada.  I included this quote to shine hope on the sadness and unfairness of this topic, and to in a away, conclude my illustration--because in the back of my head, I know that times will change just like how they have before." - Shannon

Why Karen and Melody Liked It:   This was just such a memorable piece.  We really appreciated the thought and work that went into it.  It stays with you long after you have viewed it.
