Poem “My
Soldier” By Andrea Dargin |
Desciption of Submission: “A poem about my
current relationship with a woman in the military. She will be deploying soon
and I express my sorrow and also exclusion.” – Andrea
|
I am making a mad scramble to pick up the pieces That shattered and fell from my heart When the words 'deployment' and 'June' Floated through the cold receiver. I shake my head, releasing a stream of tears— Enough to fill and ocean tenfold Deeply, I sob into the lonely night Wishing this were only a dream My sorrow deepens as the conditions of our
relationship Come to light in a more direct way I cannot come to Military Iraq Support meetings for
spouses Being a lesbian is against the rules. So I am here, alone with only my family as support I wish I knew someone in the same boat But, the having no one to relate Will not be my downfall. I must be strong Because she is an American soldier Although many she works to defend Wont fight for her own human rights She continues to protect our nation And beside her I stand, As she leaves for war soil And I will support her My love, my soldier. |
