Poem

“Take a Picture”

By Victoria Esnault

Desciption of Submission: “A Slam Poem I Wrote About My Lifestyle” - Victoria

You think I don’t see you?

I walk with my head high

The same way I walked before

I knew you even existed

I don’t dress like you

But I’d put a grand on my soul being

Deeper

Mostly because you’re shallow

You roll your eyes and purse your lips

I laugh my ass off at the site of this shit

You whisper in his ear

He looks over here

I whisper in her ear

She runs her fingers through my hair

I laugh

You frown

Do I disgust you?

Your friends start to stare

We smile in their faces

You walk away

And your color starts to fade

You’re so Black and white

Me?

I’m FULL of…

COLOR

You come to me with this Christianity bullsh… talk

I wouldn’t want you to call me an

Atheist too

Who are you to judge me?

I hit you with your own

I point out to you

Matthew 7:2-5. Look it up

And don’t think I fear you

I live a lifestyle that doesn’t

Ensure my safety or hers

They ask me,

“Then Why Did You Let Your

Skeletons Fall Out Of The Closet?”

Ready for a reality check?

I Didn’t

I PUSHED THEM

They still stare

But now for different reasons

Back then because I didn’t do the whole name brand thing

And Now

Because I live my life differently than they choose.

But I tell you one thing,

My friends don’t have to worry about me messin’ with their boyfriends.

Some can’t say the same.

I’m one of the coolest people you will ever meet

BUT

You cant get past the fact that

I choose to be with

Tanisha rather than Tarrell.

Stop starin’

I don’t look at ya’ll with disgust in my face

And Yes,

It does make me a tad bit sick.

So what if I’m with her!

If you weren’t lookin’ you wouldn’t see

Take A Picture

I’m ready to move on.
