Poem

“But They Don’t Know It”

By Windy Rottenbucher

Desciption of Submission: “A poem about trying to fit in by censoring yourself and denying who you truly are.” - Windy

You feel one thing and express another

but they don't know it.

You have one face while showing another

but they don't know it.

You are one person yet act like another

but they don't know it.

Do they know you or do they know

what you are willing to let them know?

Down within yourself are you screaming?

Are you screaming to be let out

of your self-imposed prison?

Or is it safe?

Would they recognize your true face?

Would they understand your secrets

or would they condemn you for your thoughts?

You are in pain, denying your true soul,

denying your dreams,

your thoughts,

your screams.

Censoring yourself, for them

But they don't know it.

Do you?
